here is how I start my day.......most of the time.........in your bowl: vanilla Activa Light Yogurt, chopped walnuts, sugar free mandarin oranges and and a sprinkle of flax seed..........healthy and so good, even makes a good dessert/snack................now sometimes I do enjoy my fresh eggs, but I really love this yogurt mix and think you will too.........till next time..smiles, Linda

hello my friends.........I guess this is what you call a bittersweet moment.........today is the last day my daughter and her family will be staying with us..........they are not going far....maybe 1/4 mile, silly of me isn't it??????? my oldest daughter and her family live behind us and my youngest daughter and her family use to live across the road, so I could sit at my kitchen table and look out the window and see both of our girl's homes, I liked that.........but,they couldn't keep the house and found a smaller home around the corner, which is awesome..........they stayed with us for 3 months, and it was hard at times..........you know after the last child leaves it takes awhile to get use to the empty nest, then when you do someone comes back home........I didn't want them to rent....rent is high for a nice place, so I welcomed them home.........stressful yes........would I do it again, in a heart beat.........so we will get use to our empty nest again.........I am just thankful they are still close, both of them.........love you girls......till next time, Linda

hello friends....you may remember me telling this story before, but just in case you hadn't.......it is pretty special.........our house is built on the farm where my husband grew up....the old house is sadly gone.......but every now and then he finds "buried treasures" while planting the garden, digging a post hole, or the rain will wash up memories from his past........sometimes he finds marbles, broken pieces of pottery (crocks, china etc), little toy cars, once even just the wheels and axle, bottles, buttons, fruit jar lids, pop bottles..........you never know, but he knows I treasure these things and keep the finds in a jar (if they fit) and it is so amazing the bottles are never broke just packed with dirt, which might help to protect them.......well, last year about this time, close to Valentine's Day......he came in the house and had something for me, this little bitty heart bottle..........he has 7 sisters, so this probably was one of the girl's perfume bottle, nothing expensive, just cute.......and this was one of the sweetest things he could have gotten me..........till next time......smiles, Linda

hello my friends.......a mother's work is never done....yes, I have 2 grown daughters with families of their own, but that doesn't stop mom and dad from helping them out if needed.....our youngest daughter and her husband sold their home and are in the process of buying another....short sale, why do they call it that?????? so they are living between their camper in our driveway and our home......hard on everybody involved, but it is temporary........I hated to seem them rent for a short time......their new home is about 1 mile away, so they will be able to work on it easy when that time comes......just praying the Lord will give me strength to get through this........oh, and the picture of my birds....this is something I have always enjoyed, and gives me a sense of peace, thought you might enjoy this too.......till next time.....smiles, Linda

hello friends.......after a long day, this is what is relaxing to me.....a pot of soup and a walk in the woods........soup is one of my comfort foods, and this is so easy, it is from Campbell's with a bit of help from me........I peel and boil a bunch of potatoes, how many, well I like potatoes and if you have too many just add more soup....now you see where I am going with this............after they are tender, drain, add some butter, salt and pepper and smash with a fork, make it lumpy........then I add two cans of Campbell's Chunky Chicken Noodle, one small can of corn and one small can of carrots or peas and carrots (drain both), add some parsley.....and there you have it glorified chicken soup..........much better than plain old soup the potatoes really make it.....make some corn bread or biscuits.......quick, easy, and yummy.........till next time...smiles, Linda

hello friends....I have been busy painting this TV cabinet....it was just an inexpensive cabinet painted white....I lived with the white for as long as I could........so over the weekend we took it outside and I painted it a brown/red color and applied an antiquing glaze..........I knew my husband wouldn't go for the chipped look (which I had done on some other pieces) so decided to make this a bit simpler....one picture is with the flash (the brighter one)......anyway, I love it.......our TV is on almost always, so there is no hiding it..........I am ok with that, the doors would be always open anyway...........till next time...smiles, Linda

hello friends.......I love the early morning, especially when I am in no hurry to get somewhere..........so I opened the windows and just love the views and wanted to share..........I love, love, love this time of year for everything....leaves, the smells, walnuts, pumpkins, bittersweet, cool morning and evening, warm days, and I love the cool/cold days, sweaters, pies, soup, hay rides, pumpkin patch, apples....I could go on and on.......it is a short lived season but the best..........so right now I am enjoying my coffee and yogurt.......later I will get to work, I am painting my TV cabinet and just about done........I need to get the house in order........but, in the early evening we will go out and take a walk in the corn field....which hasn't been harvested yet.......I will share some pictures of my walk.........that is so beautiful too.......till we meet again....smiles, Linda

hello friends.....you must think all I ever do is buy books and magazines and read....well, I must admit it is my one of my passions..........Maggie Bonanomi is pretty hard to beat...an awesome designer..her latest book "Buttonwood Farm" is no exception.......filled with 19 primitive projects, focusing on blue calico and blue ticking's, strawberries, geraniums, birds, floral motifs and using these inspirations for rug hooking, wool applique, pin keeps, quilts, pillows.....farm fresh and wonderful......please excuse my not so good photo's from the book, but you will get the idea, wonderful!!!!!!...have a great weekend...till next time.........smiles, Linda

hello friends.........wow !!!!!! today I received my two new books from Jill Peterson: "Tis The Season, Christmas Eve With James Cramer", and "Simple Cooking For A Simple Life"........I am almost at a loss of words to tell you how wonderful these two books are.........these are how books are meant to be........from the front cover all the way to the back cover, beautiful in every way........detail taken in every aspect.......a book you will want to keep forever and display.........get a cup of coffee and savor the words and beauty of the pages, can't do that with a Kindle.........sorry to Kindle fans, but I love to actually hold a book, see it on my shelf, take it down and look at it on a rainy day, touch the pages and hand it down to my daughters one day.......whoa! kinda got off track there, but, really I love a good book....and these two I will enjoy......till next time...smiles, Linda

hello friends.......today I had planned on cleaning, grocery shopping, you know fun stuff.........but, my daughter called and wondered if I wanted to go to the pumpkin patch with her and her husband and kids.....welllll, the cleaning can wait..........so glad I went.....I just love seeing the kids and grandkids having so much fun.......hay rides, slides, pony rides, farm animals, pumpkins, snacks,beautiful fall weather, what more could you ask for.......wonderful memories made.........I think my two daughters knew I needed something (spent Saturday with one daughter and Sunday with the other) to rejuvenate me.....little did they know all I need was them (and my family).......till next time...smiles, Linda

hello friends....yes, when I saw this platter, my heart skipped a beat.......there sitting at the bottom of a stack, I noticed the edge of this platter, and I became so nervous as I was getting closer to it......it is even prettier than I imagined......and only $3.00......my find of the day !!!!! hello friends.........I have been getting ready inside and out getting ready for the change in seasons.....fall........I have trimmed all my shrubs, cleaned out the flower beds that are in need, transplanting hostas', and starting to get the windows washed.......it is a very satisfying feeling for me to do these things..........also, yesterday we adopted a hen from the neighbors...no longer wanted/needed......still need to do some touch up painting outside and more transplanting........then I will be ready to go to local corn mazes and pumpkin patches with the grands and one final trip to Kentucky for a horse race at Keeneland..........till next time...smiles, Linda

hello friends...........today I have for you the makings of a wonderful evening, in the eyes of a 55 year grandma of 5............a soothing gentle rain, favorite candle burning, and a new magazine !!!! couldn't ask for much more..........the magazine is from Jill Peterson, titled "A Simple Life".......if you live or dream the country life, you will love this magazine...it really isn't a magazine as such, it is on heavy weight paper, no ads like a traditional magazine, the few ads in here are even fun to look at!!! this is something you want to save....anyway, here are a few pictures from the newest fall issue....oh yes, there is some more wonderful news, Jill Peterson will be coming out with a cookbook called "Simple Cooking for a Simple Life" AND James Cramer (from "Seven Gates Farm" fame) will have a book out this Christmas "Tis The Season"......those two books will be something to look forward to!!!! till next time...smiles, Linda

hello friends......I am back in the kitchen because I am feeling soooooo much better, tomorrow should be the last dentist visit..............I fixed salad that could be a meal...........in it I put: multi grained pasta, red & green peppers, green onion, black olives, cucumbers, dark red kidney beans and cherry tomato's, low fat mayo and sun dried tomato vinaigrette.......so you have veggies, grains, and protein....I kept having to get a bigger bowl, ( oh yes girls, notice my vintage pyrex) as my salad was growing......we also had a green salad along with this........the dessert, I will share tomorrow.......it too was yummo: crushed pineapple, mini marshmallows, Cool Whip, nuts and low fat cream cheese........now for coffee on the porch...till next time...smiles, Linda

hi friends.......I know, I know...I shouldn't say it, but, I am ready for fall......there, I did it!!!! It is ugly outside, almost 100 everyday, rain is down by 4", crops are turning yellow, leaves are falling off the trees....I am over it and ready for a change in the season........I cleaned out the chicken coop the other night and after that decided I will not venture outside for a while....so I have been digging through some boxes in the basement....it is even rather warm down there..........and found these two pieces of pottery I put out in the fall....not putting them out yet...... but, just cleaned them up....just in case....till next time...smiles, Linda

hello friends...here in Indiana, just like most of the United States we are in triple digits........it is hard to keep up watering, and it sure is no substitute for rain.....so some of my many flowers are suffering......except these zinnia's....I just planted a few, in memory of my mom........and they are doing great, I rarely water them, or fertilize them, and they have brought me such pleasure.......I am going to save seeds from these and buy some more next year.......really love them, a simple, old flower....mom, you were right........smiles, Linda

hi my friends....I was on a blog that was offering a give-a-way, to enter, you had to tell what was your favorite summer time memory.....well, I have many happy summer memories when I was a child......they are sooooo simple, but mean so much........I will soon be 55, so, let me share just a few things that made my summer happy, so many years ago.......well almost always we took a summer trip, we looked forward to that one trip all year, and it was usually to Colorado or Tennessee........tomato sandwiches.......slip and slide.......riding our bikes.......ice cream......a once a week trip to the five & dime.......watermelon.....pretty simple pleasures don't you think????? hi my friends, it is hard to see from my picture, but it is raining!!!!!!!!!!!!! we have not had any rain for 2 weeks and it has been over 90 degree's, with a heat index of over 100....the corn and bean fields are happy.......also a good time to get back to work on a rug hooking project I started earlier this year.......this is such a sweet bird pattern.....I love anything birds, and the lighter colors, goes with the happier colors I have been bringing back into our home....this pattern/kit is from Mad Hen...I have just ordered another kit from Mad Hen/Tonya Robey, it is a primitive farm scene.....can't wait to start it!!! till next time, smiles...Linda

hello friends....earlier this summer at a yard sale, I bought an old set of concrete garden statues, of what??? a rooster, hen and a baby chick.....the paint is almost gone, but I love them anyway....I had them on my front porch, but, I was reading a book by Carolyn Westbrook, and she said, that garden statues really make a statement when you bring them inside....so, guess where they are now....what do you think?????? smiles, Linda
